Gentle whole-body therapy for pain, stiffness, tension and stress, supporting your body's natural healing processes
My name is Clare Crouchman and I am a Bowen Technique Therapist based in the Cambridge area. I work from my treatment room in Histon, Cambridge which is easily accessible from Huntingdon, Newmarket and the surrounding villages.
I qualified in Bowen Therapy with the College of Bowen Studies in 2018, I am fully insured and a full member of both the Bowen Therapy Professional Association and Bowen UK.
I practice IOS Bowen as taught by Graham Pennington. (The Importance of Symmetry). I use leg lengths to assess and treat the primary area of dysfunction.
Whether you are looking for support with an existing heath condition or want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels, my aim is to get you feeling happier, healthier and energised with Bowen therapy treatments.

The Bowen Technique is based on the work of the the Australian therapist Tom Bowen (1916-1982). It is a targeted neuro-muscular skeletal therapy which seeks to restore healthy spinal function by addressing imbalances associated with the pelvis, spine and skull and then integrate that with the rest of the body.
My particular approach to Bowen is inspired by the work of Graham Pennington and his assessment methods which enable me to target the primary dysfunction within the body. Graham's work has evolved from over 30 years of clinical practice. Tom Bowen's work is based on the original philosophy behind osteopathy and chiropractic but uses different tools.
The Bowen 'move' activates sensory receptors within the body's muscular skeletal system. It targets the tight muscles and their attachments to the skeletal system, releasing the tension of the muscles that cause misalignments of the spine. This allows for spinal realignment without forceful manipulations.
The Bowen Technique also works on the fascia of the body which is a bio-matrix that covers the muscles, organs and nerves.
Bowen is effective because it stimulates change in all these systems simultaneously; it releases muscular tension, corrects skeletal misalignments and activates a fascial release.

Many people seek the Bowen Technique because they are experiencing pain, stiffness or muscular tension. These symptoms can affect everyday activities and gradually become accepted as normal. Rather than focussing solely on the area of discomfort, I assess the body as a whole to identify patterns of functional imbalance. Each treatment is tailored to the individual, using gentle Bowen moves to address these areas of imbalance and support the body's natural healing processes, encouraging improved function, greater freedom of movement and a reduction in pain.

Modern life can place our bodies under constant physical and emotional stress. Bowen therapy provides a quiet, gentle space to pause. Using gentle, precise movements, each treatment encourages the body to unwind, and many people find the experience deeply relaxing. Clients frequently leave feeling calmer, more settled and better able to cope with the demands of everyday life.

The Bowen Technique can help to maintain your body's healthy balance and general wellbeing, relieving chronic or acute aches and pains and reducing the stresses and tensions that come with injury or from busy lifestyles.
Everyone is different and the response to a Bowen session can be immediate or can require 3 - 6 sessions but the number of sessions is very much determined by:
After an initial course of treatment many people choose to check in monthly for a top-up, to maintain their general wellbeing or as a scheduled 'de-stress'. Other clients will get back in touch if they start to feel aches or pains, arranging treatments as and when they need them.
Bowen Technique sessions for individuals last approximately 45 minutes to one hour and cost £55 per session. A block of three sessions a week apart can be purchased for £150. Under 18s are £30 a session.
Please note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 24 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed.
I accept payment by cash, card or bank transfer either online on the booking page or in person after the session.
Bowen Therapists cannot claim to diagnose or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes a session will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if I get this kind of reaction I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session.
No need to remove clothing as the treatment can be performed successfully through light clothing such as loose leggings or tracksuit bottoms. Please do not wear denim or other heavy fabrics.
During the treatment the client lies on a therapy couch and covered with a soft blanket to keep them warm.
Bowen Technique can be adjusted to each individual client. There are no cracks or adjustments and you will find the session very relaxing. You might, however, find some areas feel sensitive to the touch if an area is really tight. As a therapist I will be aware of which areas of your body require a bit more care and attention.
The Bowen Technique is a gentle, hands-on therapy that encourages the body to relax, rebalance and support the natural healing processes. People seek Bowen Therapy for many different reasons including:
Bowen therapy is suitable for people of all ages and I see children through to older adults. Every session is tailored to the individual and their specific needs.
If you have a particular health concern or diagnosis and would like to discuss whether Bowen Therapy may be appropriate for you, please get in touch. Where necessary, I may advise that you seek guidance from your GP or consultant before treatment.
